Time Traveler

I don't often get all dressed up these days but when I do, I go all out and pay attention to tiny details. This outfit makes me feel a bit like a time traveler, as if I could go back to say... 1972, and just blend right in. My clothes were most likely around back then!

I have written exams next week, and then my in-kitchen exams the second week of December. I cannot wait for this semester to be finished! I'm enjoying it, but I am absolutely exhausted mentally. Being around people so often is really taking its tole on me. I can deal with a tight knit work group fairly well once I get to know them, but 40 or so students just stresses my very being.

While there are some students who's company I enjoy, most I wish I could just avoid. Their presence, their voice, just grates on my nerves and makes me want to scream. The fact that people can't just be quiet is beyond me. What's so wrong with just sitting with yourself and not making a constant racket or trying to get attention by whinging or blabbering on about something nobody cares about?! I don't understand people at all.

At least I'm doing fabulously in all my classes. Academics were never much of a challenge for me, especially not now when it's a subject in which I'm actually interested. My grade is high enough in the one class that I'm actually exempt from the final exam, which is great. Now if only all the teachers instituted such a rule, because I'd have no written exams at all hah.

I spent my morning ironing quilt squares for a lap quilt I'm hoping to gift my mother for Christmas. They were originally meant for a double bed sized quilt, a project I started years ago and lost steam for when I realized how big of a job I'd set up for myself. A lap quilt is much more manageable, and some of the work is already done which is encouraging. Fingers crossed it gets done! I hope you are having a good week. Cheers!

Green Green Green

I love this dress ever so much, but it's a wiggle dress, and I always get frustrated if I have to walk more than a few feet anywhere. My natural stride is very long and wearing this dresses forces me to take awkward small steps, which I'm not used to. But I keep it and keep wearing it - albeit not often - because wearing head to toe bright green is too awesome to stop doing.

The intense urge to chop off my hair has subsided, although the desire is still there sometimes. My bangs have finally grown out to a length where I don't feel like a total freak and they've actually been behaving quite well recently. The best description for what my hair has been doing is looking like it should be on the head of someone cruising the coast of California. Not sitting in a stuffy library. Would that I could obey my hair!

The buttons on the back of the dress are a light blue colour now but I have a feeling they used to match the dress. Their thread matches perfectly and I think the buttons may have just faded over time. I've got the matching belt that goes with the dress too but it's a bit too long and wearing it just makes me look like a giant tube of green and that's a bit too much.

I'm ever so happy it's Friday again. I only had a three day work week, but it's still felt absolutely interminable. I'm out of patience and just want to scream and tell my work to shove their requests where the sun don't shine. Being here is just wrong for me, in every possible way. It's toxic to my mental and physical well-being and I do not like it. Knowing how close I am to finally being free of this places makes it so much harder to still be here.

I'm spending Saturday and Sunday in Montreal, where I will finally get to meet an awesome internet friend. We've known each other for years and only live about two hours and change apart, but our lives never really crossed. She and I have plenty of fun plans involving visiting the Fluevog shoe store, going to the Archeology Museum and then eating delicious crêpes, among other fun activities. So excited! I hope you all have a really great weekend. Cheers!

Call Me Heidi

For some reason, now that I look at these photos, I feel like I should have pigtail braids and be traipsing across rolling Swedish hills to go milk a cow or something. I don't know. I'm quite mad! Mad enough to pair a neon green skirt with this tunic. I don't particularly like how my winter boots (emergency ones bought on clearance when I literally walked through my other pair) look with everything but I dislike being in my sock feet in photos anymore.

Is this outfit flattering? No. Is it pleasing to the eye? Most people would disagree. Is it classy, clean or crisp? Nope. And I like it that way. My workday outfits have to confirm to some slightly more polished dressing rules, so I tend to get sloppy and free on weekends and weeknights. Screw figure-flattery or looking sexy, I just want to wear something fun and something me. So I do.

I can't get over how much embroidery is on this tunic. So many itty bitty little details! The green in the embroidery was nearly identical to the skirt too, so it was practically a must to put them together. I can't wait to wear this again once it's not freezing outside and I can be bare legged! The skirt has such wonderful flounce and swing, with so much fabric to twirl about.

I hope you all had a good weekend. Mine was alright for the most part, but not as good as I had hoped. I'm a bit miffed with some friends who had promised me something, then not only promptly reneged that promise, but then offered two other people that which they had promised me. Right in front of me. It'd be like promising a thirsty person a glass of water, pulling it away at the last moment and saying there isn't enough, only to then give it to two other people who don't need it, in front of that thirsty person's face. And then acting like they'd never offered in the first place.

I am so over winter. So done. It's still frigidly cold outside though, of course. I just want bare legs and toes in the grass again. To be able to go outside without having to pile on 4 layers. For a time when walking to the grocery store doesn't depend on which direction the wind is blowing ice pellets (into or away from your eyes). I want to go camping, a lot. Come on warm weather, get here! Cheers!
