Montreal avec Nicole

So ages and ages ago now it seems, I made an overnight trip out to Montreal to visit my super duper awesome fantastic friend Nicole. (How did June go by so quickly?!) Since being off work - as of the 11th this month - has thrown my sense of time for a loop, blogging and outfits has fallen a bit by the wayside. Until I get back into the swing of things, here are some photos of my Montreal visit last month on the 16th and 17th. Let's start with what I wore before anything else...

Montreal June 16-17 2012
Tee - Custom printed and modified
Skirt - Thrifted from Value Village
Sandals - Sears
Fedora - Ardene's

You may notice how my skirt is very crooked. This is because it was melting off my body! Seriously! It kept getting progressively bigger and bigger as the day went by and the only thing that saved me was that Nicole had a safety pin. I spent the rest of the day pinning my skirt tighter and tighter to avoid it slipping off.

Montreal June 16-17 2012

Since these photos were taken, I've cut off the sleeves and a chunk of the neckline, as well as a bit of the bottom on this shirt. It's a work in progress! I just refuse to stop wearing some of my old favourites just because they're several sizes too large now. Modification is the answer!

Montreal June 16-17 2012

"I will make you be a tourist in your own city!" I remember clearly declaring this, but it's always fun to explore your home like a tourist every once in a while. It's easy to overlook things when you live someplace and start taking it for granted. We stumbled upon the greatest vintage and thrift store just ambling about! The Rocky Horror sign drew us into Eva-B.

There was so much awesome stuff in this place it wasn't even funny. We could have spent the whole day just working our way through the racks and stacks and shelves filled with vintage goodies and thrifted clothes of all kinds.

There's a bunch more photos but I'll save those for another post. Have any of you ever been to Montreal? Did you like it? I've been quite a few times, but never to actually see the city. You don't experience much when you zip in late at night and nip out early the next morning, so it was nice to be there in daylight for once. I hope you're all having a good July! Cheers!

Do Your Homework

When Tieka blogged about her ThreadSence Giveaway, I took the time to go through their Lookbook. After being disappointed that the adorable little aqua and pink-flower shrug seemed not to be available, and getting mildly annoyed with all the cliche native/aztec rip-offs... I spotted some stellar floral wedges by Chinese Laundry.

I've been lusting after floral wedges and sandals of some sort or other for most of this summer and spring, and I fast assumed that these shoes would likely be out of my price range. I clicked through anyway, just to see... Hey, $58, that's not bad! I did some more internet spelunking and managed to find some favourable reviews, and then... I found the shoes on sale. Well ladies and germs, it was a done deal right there.

I spent some time comparing sales prices on different sites, then compared shipping, to try and find the best price and delivery speed. I'm very happy to say that the total price, including the shoes themselves with taxes and S&H, come up to the original sale price. And I will have them delivered to me on Monday! Yes, Monday. How awesome is that?

I wound up buying them on sale from Endless.com, but I'm glad I took the time to compare. Another website had the shoes on sale for a lot cheaper, but their added shipping brought the total prices to about the same amount. No saving there. Not to mention their shipping would have had me waiting 2-3 weeks instead of just 2-3 days. It pays to do one's shoe-shopping homework!

I'm already dreaming up the outfits I'm going to wear with these. I'll need to make the most of the rest of this summer while it lasts and rock these babies proper! It's too bad living in Canada means I'm often stilted when it comes to internet shoe-shopping (6pm.com don't deliver here at all, and Lulus.com charges $22 flatrat to ship here too eek) but I think I did well here.

Now I just need not to buy anything else until after September... I need to have money to get myself out to the Reptile Breeder's Expo and Conference in Toronto that month, and buy myself another creature or three.

The next outfit post is going to be featuring another new-to-the-blog dress (it'll go great with these shoes, actually) and that will popping up tomorrow. I hope you're all having a good week! Cheers!

Fluff

Since I can't upload any outfit photos - which is really frustrating - I'm just going to make this a fluff post with some outfits made out entirely of Topshop items. I'm also going to be skipping out on the FBFF questions tomorrow because, for one thing, I'll be in the middle of nowhere with no internet or computer, and simply because this week's questions didn't quite tickle my fancy. But anywho, these pretty things definitely get my attention! If only I had oodles of money...

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

 1 2 3 4 5 6

 1 2 3 4 5 6 7

Putting these outfits together has taught me something. I am a slave to matchy-matchy colours. I tried to push myself out of the box with colours and patterns but as you can see - especially in the last one - I tend to turn outfits into an exclusive colour party, where only the select colours few may attend. *is a dork* Anyway, I hope you all have a lovely Easter or Regular Weekend for those of you who don't celebrate. Cheers!

I wish I could wear it!

My outfit posts will probably be sparse the next little while since I'm going to be occupied doing a lot of packing, but I'm still going to make an effort to post regularly-ish. I was reading Audi's dress review post about a dress from the Red Dress Shoppe, over at Fashion For Nerds, and one of the dresses for sale... ! So gorgeous! It's called the Nightingale Dress, what a perfect name for such a sweet dress!

And since I'm daydreaming... here's what I'd pair it with! Some groovy sandals from Blowfish, this white and yellow handbag from Lulu's and these cute jasper earrings from Peace Frog Designs on Etsy. And bare legs of course!

There's just enough yellow and white detailing in the dress that the handbag jives perfectly (so far as I'm concerned) and the sandals just look fun and comfy. I'd actually probably purchase the dress at some point but I'm not super keen about those two buttons right in the middle of the bodice. Which is too bad because the print on it is just so divine... What items are you lusting after these days?

Cheers!

The One That Got Away

I took initiative yesterday evening and styled myself. Baby steps! So much so, I missed a button on my jacket and I didn't notice until I was looking at the photos on my computer. Oops? I still like the photos anyway, even if I am a goof who can't do up her buttons properly. Thank goodness there are only five! I've gone out the door in a button up dress crookedly buttoned on at least one occasion. I admit it, I'm button-challenged!

Jacket - Thrifted from Value Village
Dress - Purchased from Sally Jane Vintage on Etsy
Tights - Fancy Sox
Flats and belt - Ardene's
Scarf - Spring
Sunglasses - Young Jane's Vintage

I bought this jacket way back in December, but it nearly didn't happen. I tried it on, I pet it, I showed it to my mother, I put it back on the rack, wandered back to it, carried it around, and finally just purchased the darn thing. I'm glad I did, it's perfect for this weather, and has a nice different vibe compared to my usual black leather jacket.

Now there's something odd about these sun glasses. Sometimes, I absolutely adore them, other times, I feel I look ridiculous. I loved them when I bought 'em, I loved them while taking these photos... but now that I look at them, I think I look funny! Not to mention they really, really make me look like my god-mother back in the 70's heh. But that's part of why I love them... they're just so wonderfully vintage!

March 30 2011 C

This dress has a self-fabric belt, but I switched things up and added a black belt instead. I have no idea why I didn't try doing this earlier, I really like how it looks. I particularly adore the above photo, I feel like I could be just another gal from the 70's! (Or maybe I'm just full of myself!)

March 30 2011 A

Here I am in my now-reclaimed living room. My father had kind of taken over the place with his painting supplies and spent a lot of time napping on the couch so I tended to avoid it for the most part. But now the room has opened up and it's all mine again. You're likely going to be seeing a lot more of it, since there's a huge picture window that lets in oodles of wonderful bright light and I would love to take advantage of that for outfit photos.

It's Friday tomorrow! Hope you're all having a good day. Cheers!

Begone snow! T'is I, the Sun!

March 25 2011 I

As you can see, there is clearly still snow on the ground. I took these photos yesterday, Friday March 25th. I might look chipper, but it was still quite chilly. Thank goodness there wasn't much wind or I'd have been a Celsicle in no time.

The Tiger's Eye and silver ring belonged to my grandfather. I had it resized and now I wear it. Also I'm sorry for the horror that is my back yard. Old fence, crusty snow, not the greatest place for photos. But the sun was out and it was reasonably nice - until the wind blew - that I just had to take photos outside.

March 25 2011 B
March 25 2011 H

I've had this romper a few weeks now and I've so badly wanted to wear it. So finally I busted it out, even if it's still a bit too cold for it. I adore how swingy and fun it is. I forget I'm not wearing a real skirt, and it's so comfy. It's going to be great on windy days this summer.

Speaking of the summer, I've decided I want to take out my camera and try to snap photos of other folks with awesome outfits, kinda street style I guess. Nothing serious, but I think it could be fun every once in a while. I keep seeing really fashionable folks and wishing I had a camera!

Anyhow, hope you're all having a great weekend. Cheers!

Sun Flowers and Hopes of Spring

It's trying really hard to be spring outside! But it's that awkward time of year where it's cold in the mornings but warmer in the evenings and I can't ever figure out just what to wear out the door. I look forward to the time when I just need to sling my bag over my shoulder and walk out the door, no muss, no fuss.

March 11 2011 C
Dress - Purchased on Etsy from Reluctant Damsel.
Shirt - Smartset
Tights - Fancy Sox
Shoes - Thrifted from Value Village

This dress! Love it so much! (Okay, I say this about all my new dresses... but it's true every time!) I wore this on Friday March 11th. I'm stuck wearing it layered over top things for the moment but I cannot wait to wear it on its own this spring and summer. Plus there's this amusing coincidence...

March 11 2011 A

My tattooed flowers match perfectly with my dress, haha... I've had several people make the comment so far so I figured I should share. And for those wondering... Germaine was my maternal great-grandmother, and the Brown-eyed Susan's are my favourite flowers.

I had a totally fantastic weekend. Friday night I went out dancing to psytrance with some friends - and learned that this dress glows in UV - and had a blast. Then Saturday night I went out with another friend to a blues bar where we danced to some funk n' reggae. Lots of dancing!

March 11 2011 B

Now if any of you happen to really, really like the pattern from my dress... Well it just happens that there's another item on Etsy with the same exact fabric, from the same line of clothing. So if you too want to run around this summer sporting some sun flowers like these... Maybe this romper will do!

I hope you've all been having a good Monday - as good as Mondays can be! Cheers!

Mini Dress Madness

No outfit posts today. Instead I'm going to share some more awesome Etsy finds. I admit, I have been spending hours looking at vintage clothing on Etsy again. I can't help it, I really do think I'm addicted.

Anywho, my recent search obsession has been for mini-dresses. I want something cute and girly that shows off leg, something fitted and flattering. But also crazy colours! I blame this on my purchase of this dress. It seems to have sent me into a crazy 60's mini dress obsession period. It's also partly due to my just being sick and tired of winter already and so badly wanting to wear cute little dresses and show off some leg!

I'm dreaming of delicate tiny flower patterns and bold mod colours. But, without further rambling, here are some awesome little dresses I wish were mine! Click on the photos to go to the listing for more pics. :)

Such adorable little floral and pink dresses!

And then you've got these amazing 60's mod patterned dresses, and the cutest little patchwork dresses! I'm a sucker for outrageous patterns and colours.

Absolutely adorable little sundress!

Pretty in paisley!

Passionate pinks and purples!

Out of this world patterns!

And that's it for my mini-dress bombardment. For now anyway, hah. As is clear from the same model being in the photos over and over, a lot of those dresses are from the same shop, that is Dolly Rocker Vintage. If you love 60's and 70's fashions, her shop is definitely one you need to check out.

Anywho, that's enough. Hope you're all doing well. Cheers!
