Psychedelic 60's

I think this dress is now officially my most favourite item in my entire wardrobe. It's bright, colourful, quirky and odd. It's a trip back to another time. I love it to bits. Plus it's fun going to do groceries or to the mall, and seeing people's reactions haha...

I have to wonder though, who did this dress belong to before me? Did she love it as much as me, and part with it reluctantly? Or did she dislike the dress and not feel the same at all?

Jan 20 2011 A
Jan 20 2011 B

Has it spent years sitting in a closet, or boxed up somewhere? Or was someone actually actively wearing it not so long ago? I know I'm never going to part with this dress, not ever. I'll still have it when I'm old and wrinkled! Or until it falls apart, haha. Hope you all had a good weekend. Cheers!

Snake Skin and Motorcycles

I went to Ottawa's 2nd Annual Motorcycle Show with my dad earlier. I am now officially in love with a motorcycle. *sigh* Too bad I didn't have the $7000 to drop on it! Not to mention insurance...

My dad's always been a motorcycle enthusiast and it's apparently an enthusiasm that's been passed on to me. And this bike was perfect I tell you! It was the right height, the right size engine... *sighs again* Look at my face here, it's the look of love!

Now I'm going to be dreaming about motorcycles. Someday, I will have one! Someday. I've wanted one for years already. Too bad the damn things are so expensive, and that winter here in Canada is so long and cuts down on the time you can ride. Eh well!

Hope you're all having an awesome weekend, cheers!

All These Colours In My Eyes

This is a skirt I picked up at Value Village last month, while taking advantage of 30% off. It turned out to still have its original price tag attached, and I paid $5 for what was originally a skirt being sold for $69.

This is an awesome skirt but I would never have paid $69 for it! It has got the craziest colour palette, all I could figure to wear with it that wouldn't look weird was black! I'm thinking of maybe shortening it, to just above the knee, because it seems to be a bit of an odd length on me.

I mentioned in my last post that I got new boots, and these are them. I picked them up at the Feetfirst in the Rideau Centre over lunch.

Jan 28 2011 B

They're a lovely black suede, with fuzzy warm thick faux fur interior lining to keep my feet cozy, and they're waterproof! I particularly like that I just slip them on and off... no zips or laces to worry about. My last pair of boots had laces that kept constantly coming undone and it was driving me a little insane.

Jan 28 2011 A

Anywho, I'm going to grab my copy of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and listen to a bit of Pink Floyd. Hope you're having a good one. Cheers!

Yesterday's Wardrobe

As I expected, there wasn't enough time for me to write an outfit post last evening. I did manage to take 10 minutes to quickly snap some outfit photos before heading to class though. I've gotten pretty good at taking my photo now, so that I wind up only taking about a dozen before having one that pleases me, which definitely helps saving time. I've posted this dress before, but that was way back in September. Seems ages ago, when leaves were on trees and the grass was still visible!

Dress - Purchased from Heather's Moonshine Junkyard on Etsy.
Tights - Fancy Sox
Shoes - Thrifted from Value Village

This is my favourite kind of outfit, a happy mix of vintage and thrifted items. I've taken to trying to buy all my work shoes thrifted from now on because honestly, spending $60 for a pair of shoes I'm only going to wear at work just seems pretty ridiculous. I bought myself a pair of new winters boots today, and they cost me about $90, discounted, and that still really stings... but compared to their full $140 price I can't complain too much! Plus I'd been wearing the same old pair for 3 years now and they really needed to go.

Jan 27 2011 A
Jan 27 2011 B

I really like these green shoes. They're pretty much in my favourite colour, and the heel is nice and low so I'm not wobbling around like I'm wearing stilts. I like stilleto heels and own quite a few pairs, but they hurt my feet too much to really wear anymore. I fell down some stairs a few Christmases ago and I'm pretty sure I broke or at least cracked some of the bones in one of my feet and it's been extra bad wearing heels since. So short chunky heels it is!

I might be writing another post this evening, since I'm wearing a skirt today that hasn't been posted yet, but we'll see how lazy I am and how willing to bombard my few watchers with so many annoying, uninteresting posts. (At least, that's what I fear they seem to be!)

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Cheers!

I admit it, I'm addicted

To Etsy, that is. I'd purchased a few items on Etsy last spring, but never got too into it or checked it out too much. But recently... I have no idea how this happened but it seems like Etsy is my go-to site when I am bored now. And I spend ages just trawling through vintage clothing listings and oggling pretty hand made jewelry. Which I suppose isn't a bad thing except it is making me spend money.

As I'm not 100% certain I'll have the time to do an outfit post tonight, I thought I'd share a few of my recent purchases (so recent I'm still waiting for them in the mail) and some of the many (MANY) Favourites I've been adding to my list lately.

Both purchased from  ReluctantDamsel on Etsy.

Pretty little feather piece to hang in hair!
Purchased from Adamaris on Etsy.
(I had a soft spot for this one in particular since it has a rooster feather,
and I call my boyfriend my "rooster")

Purchased from NinthAvenueVintage on Etsy.
(this one I have received, and I can't wait to wear it this summer!)

And now on to Favourites! I think I might just start posting Favourites every once in a while (because really, who else can I share the awesome with?!) by theme... And today's Favourites shall be Peasant/Mexican Style! Some are already sold, most are not (right now) but they're still great to look at. Just click on the photo to get to the listing. Enjoy!

And the best for last...

Cheers!

Déja Vu

Another outfit you've pretty much seen before... But once again, different hair, and shoes. If there are shoes being worn in my outfit photos, most likely it means this is exactly what I wore to work that day. I was the most colourful person in the whole library! One of the patrons complimented me on the dress, actually, which was nice.

I had my first of ten Spanish classes last evening, and I really think I'm going to enjoy them. It's just Level 1 so nothing at all complicated, but I think I'll be good at picking up a 3rd language. Spanish is very similar to French, so I have that going for me. Plus I took a class in high school (even though that's a good 6 years ago now) and I can still remember a lot of the basics.

Jan 26 2010 A

The one bummer though is that classes are Tuesday and Thursdays, 6:30pm-9:30pm, which means I will rarely have time for outfit posts or photo taking on those days. But most of my wardrobe has been seen now, so that's not so bad! Hope you are all well, cheers!

Little Dmitry

This is going to be a short one. I've posted this outfit before, but my hair is different and this time I am wearing shoes, so it's different-ish! But this is my extremely-cold-weather outfit, and that's what it was again today. The shoes aren't exactly what you'd think of first to go with the rest of the outfit, but they're so at odds with the other colours that I find it works. Somehow.

Here I am holding one of my tarantulas, Dmitry. Little Dima is a Grammostola rosea a.k.a. Chilean rose, of the red colour form. And a total cutie! I love my spiders. :)

Anyway, that's it for now. Hope you're all having a good start to the week. Cheers!

Bedroom Eyes

I'd never really thought my face and eyes were those capable of making "bedroom eyes" but apparently they can! By accident, no less! I'd not have used the photo where I'm making such a sultry glance, but it was the best one in terms of pose and how my hair fell... ah well! ;)

Blouse - Thrifted from Value Village
Skirt - Thrifted from Value Village

I bought this blouse back in December, but I haven't worn it up 'till now simply because it almost seems a little too dressy for everyday. But who cares! Why have clothing if you're never going to wear them, right?!

My friend is having a birthday party tonight, and it's 80's themed, which means costumes! I don't have that much 80's gear... but I'm going to do my best. Lots of neon! I'm going to try and remember to bring my camera (I brought it with me to a board game gathering last night and wound up forgetting it in the car!) and try to remember to actually take photos haha... If I do, they should definitely be interesting!

Hope you're all having a good weekend, cheers!

Aqua Dreams and Peach Flowers

I was happy when I got home from work today and discovered that a package was waiting for me. I had ordered some pieces of resin jewelry from Flowers For Real Jewelry on Etsy. I immediately switched out the earrings I had for these lovely verbena flower earrings. They wound up going wonderfully with my brightly coloured vintage dress.

I've worn this dress only a few times in the last couple months, but I never made a post about it after having worn it in my very first blog post here. It makes that day in September seem so far away.

I wore this dress out dancing one night and someone came up to me and exclaimed, "I love your dress! I saw you and thought 'There's a 70's housewife on the dance floor!' It's great!" Ah vintage clothes haha...

I would have had another dress to show you earlier, but the dress I bought from Brick House Vintage must have been lost in the mail because it was shipped November 30th and hasn't made it here yet. I keep hoping I'll come home to find it got here REALLY late but odds are I won't be so lucky. :(

I'm eagerly awaiting another package in the mail, this one with a crazily coloured and amazingly patterned dress from the 60's. I'm hoping it gets here in time for me to wear it on the weekend. Hope you're all having a good week, cheers!

Seed Fluff and Denied Vintage

It snowed a lot yesterday, but today's skies were bright blue as I drove toward Almonte to meet up with my friend Jenny. I'd made her a custom nursing necklace as she's with child, so I was going to bring it to her, and try to pop in to Vintage Wear/Ware again while in town.

Sadly, when we got to the vintage store, this sign was in the door! Small towns ;)

Trying to call and get the store opened!

And we never did manage to get ahold of anyone to open up the shop... Too bad, we'd both been hoping to dig through the great vintage stuff! So we strolled around Mill street and checked out a few antique shops that were open. I found a wonderful paperweight filled with seed fluff for $6.

From there we wandered over to the Palms coffee shop for some drinkables and eatables. I had a mochachinno and a red pepper and cheddar scone with butter, which was so tasty I snatched up another to bring home. We hung out in the coffee shop for a while and played a game of Scrabble!

Jan 16 2011 C

We finished up our game and tried one more time - with no luck - to get into the vintage store and then said our goodbyes. It was a lovely Sunday afternoon spent together and I'm very happy that I took the time to go out there. I had a really nice weekend, seeing more than one friend that I hadn't seen in a very long time. I hope you all had as good a weekend. Cheers!
