Call Me Heidi

For some reason, now that I look at these photos, I feel like I should have pigtail braids and be traipsing across rolling Swedish hills to go milk a cow or something. I don't know. I'm quite mad! Mad enough to pair a neon green skirt with this tunic. I don't particularly like how my winter boots (emergency ones bought on clearance when I literally walked through my other pair) look with everything but I dislike being in my sock feet in photos anymore.

Skirt - Thrifted from Value Village
Belt - Gift from Heather
Boots - Some sports store

Is this outfit flattering? No. Is it pleasing to the eye? Most people would disagree. Is it classy, clean or crisp? Nope. And I like it that way. My workday outfits have to confirm to some slightly more polished dressing rules, so I tend to get sloppy and free on weekends and weeknights. Screw figure-flattery or looking sexy, I just want to wear something fun and something me. So I do.

I can't get over how much embroidery is on this tunic. So many itty bitty little details! The green in the embroidery was nearly identical to the skirt too, so it was practically a must to put them together. I can't wait to wear this again once it's not freezing outside and I can be bare legged! The skirt has such wonderful flounce and swing, with so much fabric to twirl about.

I hope you all had a good weekend. Mine was alright for the most part, but not as good as I had hoped. I'm a bit miffed with some friends who had promised me something, then not only promptly reneged that promise, but then offered two other people that which they had promised me. Right in front of me. It'd be like promising a thirsty person a glass of water, pulling it away at the last moment and saying there isn't enough, only to then give it to two other people who don't need it, in front of that thirsty person's face. And then acting like they'd never offered in the first place.

I am so over winter. So done. It's still frigidly cold outside though, of course. I just want bare legs and toes in the grass again. To be able to go outside without having to pile on 4 layers. For a time when walking to the grocery store doesn't depend on which direction the wind is blowing ice pellets (into or away from your eyes). I want to go camping, a lot. Come on warm weather, get here! Cheers!

Nothing New Here

I can proudly say that everything in this outfit (okay, not my skivvies) is either handmade, thrifted or vintage. I absolutely love it when outfits like these come together! You can't just walk into a mall and come out with the making for my outfit, that is not going to happen. Especially not for as little as I paid for everything!

Lynx-fang Earrings - Purchased from Aranea Designs on Etsy
Necklace - Handmade from a dear friend

The funny thing about this skirt is I've had it for years, worn it very often all year round and yet... I don't think I've posted it on the blog. Or if I did, I have completely forgotten when. Nonetheless, I love this skirt, and when I saw its bright floral print next to the tunic in my closet, it was a no-brainer to put them together.

I scored these wicked leather boots for just $8! They are super comfy too, I've already worn them out dancing twice and plan on taking them out again on Friday night. Some of the hooks and holes are rusty, but that's no big deal. And now that it's not absolutely frigid outside, I'll be able to wear these more often without worrying about freezing my toes off!

Someone very dear to me made me this cross and necklace. It's all the more special because it's not something I'd ever have expected them to do, and it was made during a difficult time in both our lives. I don't wear it often - it's rather delicate - but it means a lot to me. Sometimes the simple gifts mean the most.

I've got belly dance class this evening again, and I'm definitely looking forward to hanging out with the ladies afterward. I think I'm actually even getting kind of good at some of the dance moves! When I took classes back in 2007, I decided not to go further on because I felt too uncoordinated and choppy, like my body would never be able to do the moves correctly. Now I keep surprising myself when I do things right and keep up with everyone.

While I really love my more 'put-together' and professional outfits, it's ones like these I love wearing the most. This is how I dress when I'm on my own time. I went dancing in this outfit. It was comfortable and allowed me freedom of movement. I just wish I could dress like this more often. I hope you're all having a good week, mine's going quite well. Cheers!

Gypsy Queen

This was one of the outfits I brought with me to wear while I was in Alberta. When my boyfriend's dad saw me, he said I dressed like a gypsy. I have to agree, and I took it as a compliment. It feels like ages ago when I took these photos back on August 14th. I love this outfit so much, I'd live in it if I could (I wore it 3 times in two weeks while in Alberta hah).

Vintage Blouse - Purchased from Jewels4pandas on Etsy
Skirt - Thrifted from the Salvation Army
Sandals - Thrifted from Value Village

It's just one of those outfits that feels very "me" and in which I feel comfortable. Plus I just love how it all moves and flows as I walk around. I really love outfits with flow and flounce.

I've been having such an odd absent-minded week. I've been spending a lot of time oggling shoes and tasty dessert recipes in lieu of reading blogs, so I'm rather behind. So food-filled have been my eyes, it took me 3 days to get around to writing this post, and I've actually been excited about sharing this outfit. I'm glad tomorrow is Friday, that's for certain.

Right now I just want the day to be over so I can go home and play more Sims 3. I've gotten myself addicted again and I have way too much fun getting my Stylist Sim to run around giving people wardrobe makeovers heh. Even my random geekery manages to fit clothes into things.

Embroidered Love

I'm super happy to be sharing this outfit with you all! This lovely embroidered blouse was an excited purchase I made on Etsy a while ago. I saw it minutes after it was listed and I just knew it had to be mine. And since the asking price was $12, I wasn't going to argue, and promptly purchased it. I am so happy I did!

Tunic Dress - Purchased from Mr. Idaho's Vintage on Etsy
Leggings - Some store in a mall
Sandals - Dr. Scholl's, thrifted from Value Village
Belt - From Heather at Moonshine Junkyard
Purse - Thrifted from Value Village

I wore this out just to do groceries and run a few errands. I never expected it to be such a hit! Three separate cashiers complimented me on the blouse, it really made my day. It's little things like that that make a difference.

I picked up this amazing leather purse for $8! The purse, these sandals, and the purse and sandals from this post were all purchased at the same time actually. I got super lucky! I wasn't even going to go thrifting, but after contemplating spending $30 on some sandals at Walmart, I figured I'd get more bang for my buck at the thrift store... and I was right! I left with 3 pairs of shoes, two purses and a nightie and still spent less than what the one pair of sandals at Walmart would have cost me! And everything was like new, to boot.

I loved this outfit so much it was all I could do not to wander around smiling like a ninny, especially after all the nice compliments. The leggings work great with this, but I look forward to trying to style it some other way. This feels a lot like wearing pants to me and in the summer it'll be too warm for the leggings anyway.

I spent my weekend pretty much just packing and playing too much Sims 3 (I admit, I'm addicted) but it was enjoyable nonetheless. When you're packing everything away to move someplace else, you wind up finding things you don't see much of most of the time. I spent a good half hour reading old diary entries from when I was 14 years old. Seems like a lifetime ago when it was less than a decade!

Oh, and before I forget... I've joined Chictopia! I kept hearing about it and being linked to it, and finally actually took the time to look. Seems like a fun community. I'm loving seeing so many outfits, and it's a whole new source for fashion blogs since so many of the people already blog about style.

I hope you all had a great weekend! Cheers!
