Wool sweaters and wool skirts and wool socks... Yay for wool! I'm really digging this little black wool skirt I picked up the other day.

I had to try on the sweater a few times before I was certain I wanted it. I wasn't sure how I felt about the collar - I don't usually like big collars of any kind - but eventually the fit and colour won me over.

The only bummer about this outfit is that it attracts cat hair like maaad. And my kitty has oodles of white and light orange hairs so they really show... Eh well, I'll just consider it extra insulation! Haha...

Jackpot!

I walked to the nearby Salvation Army today, in search of a sunny yellow sweater. I didn't find one, but I did snatch 3 other snuggly sweaters and two more nice warm skirts. I've still got my hopes up for a yellow sweater, but I'm very happy with what I got today.

I actually bought this black sweater earlier today... I really needed something like this in my wardrobe. I have a lot of tank tops and sleeveless shirts, and I needed a good dark neutral zip up sweater to toss over them.

And this is a horrible photo I took with my webcam as an afterthought but I wanted to share the little hemp necklace I made the other night.

I couldn't find any jewelery I liked for my partner to gift me for my birthday, so he passed me his little glass mushroom pendant until he gets me something at Christmas. Anyway... it was just on a black string, and I had some wood beads and hemp cord, so I figured why not, and made this. It's more special to me now because it's made with a little of each of us.

The skirt is the one I picked up on Friday at another Sally Anne. I'm really scoring with these mid-calf length wool skirts lately... I've got three now, and it's great. They are going to be perfect for when there's snow on the ground! Do you have any favourite go-to item for cold and snowy weather? I know that's what these skirts are for me! What are yours?

I absolutely adore this blouse. It was love at first sight. It's just so bright and cheery, and I get compliments on it all the time. The lillies just seem to be splashes of colour on the shirt, bright oranges and yellows.

I bought another long wool skirt at the Sally Anne today so you'll likely be seeing that one soon too. I must beef up my winter wardrobe before it starts getting really cold! Plus it's a great excuse to go thrifting ;)

Giant Spider!

After my last post, my parents and I went to the National Art Gallery here in Ottawa. There's a giant metal spider out front, and I've wanted to have my photo taken with it for ages... Finally got my chance.



The gallery is in a gorgeous large building of glass and steel, pretty in a harsh way.

Anyway, gotta show my parents how to feed my pets while I'm away... Cheers!

Heading West

I've gone a bit AWOL with outfit posts lately, but that's because I've either been wearing something already seen, nothing thrifted or I'm just too busy and/or lazy to take photos... oops.

It'll probably be a little while longer before I start posting again too because on Saturday I'm catching a plane and heading out to Alberta. My partner lives out there and I haven't seen him since July, and I'll be spending my birthday with him. I figure, hopefully, I should be back on track by the middle of the 2nd week of November. Key word hopefully.

I packed my suitcase last night, carefully choosing all my outfits. I have to admit, I'm an over-packer in most cases. I bring thrice as many items of clothes as I'd ever need, for the ever looming just in case moment. It's so much easier to pack for warm weather... sweaters take so much room in a suitcase!

How do you pack when you go on a trip? Light and simple, or heavy and exaggerated like myself?

Zombie Walk 2010

Zombie Walks are becoming pretty common in big cities these last few years. I've participated in Ottawa's Zombie Walk three years in a row now and it's been going on a few years longer than that. It's nothing complicated, we have no goal, no real leader, organizer or rules... Just show up dressed as a zombie at the entrance to Beechwood Cemetery at a certain vague time and zombie-shuffle your way to Parliament Hill once enough of us have showed up. (Of course, there are the unwritten rules of not harassing children, or confused elderly, and no smearing blood or gore on store fronts or sidewalks... although the last still happens anyway)

Some people put oodles of effort into their costumes... others barely any at all. Personally, I think making the zombie costume is a big part of the fun! This year I picked an entirely white outfit for my zombie persona, all items I picked up at a Value Village.

We got a turnout of something around 2000 people this year, I'm sure. There isn't much else to say about the Zombie Walk apart from what I've already said... so I'll let the photos speak for themselves :)
