Pizza and Necklaces

I'm wearing one of the sweaters I picked up at the Value Village with my friend Kirsten last evening. I've been in sore need of more long sleeved but not super heavy sweaters and this one is great.

Skirt - Smartset, purchased years ago

Leg Warmers - Ardene's

I was actually cutting tags from my purchases today before doing laundry, and came upon one of the original tags. A skirt I'd bought still had its original price tag on it... and my eyes nearly fell out at the sight. I spent less on everything I bought last night (3 skirts, 3 sweaters, 1 night gown and 1 blouse) than what this one skirt sold for originally. Thrifting. Best. Thing. Ever.

How awesome is that?

I made some pizza from scratch for supper this evening. I used to work in a pizza shop back when I was in high school and I picked up the skill of flinging dough. I enjoy being in the kitchen though, making food is always fun, and eating it is even better! This one was super tasty, with pesto sauce, artichoke hearts, tomato, black olives, red sheppard peppers, goat feta and mozzarella.

I also made a few more necklaces. I picked up enough beads at the Sassy Bead shop in the market to make about a dozen or so pieces, and then snatched up some different colours of hemp thread. I'll be good to go for a while.

I'm going to be making some truffles with friends tomorrow, which should be fun. And chocolaty. Very chocolaty. Hope you all have a great weekend too! Cheers!

Time for Snow

We'd actually been quite lucky - in my opinion - and there hadn't been any snow here in Ottawa until recently. And then it all just decided to dump itself on us, even though it's still technically Fall until next week.

It's funny because I really don't like winter, not at all. I enjoy no winter sports or activities, can't stand the cold or the snow or ice or slush... But I adore looking at winter, because it can just be so beautiful.

Dec 15 2010 G

I went down to the Vanier branch of the Ottawa library, since I knew there was a cute little park there that would be good for photos. A friend of mine lives in Venezuela and I wanted to take snow photos for her.

Of course winter roads also look like this a lot of the time, which can be dangerous. I drove the truck to the library and it was slipping and sliding everywhere. There were 140 reported car accidents yesterday alone, just in Ottawa.

I wore the blue beaded necklace today. I figure, if I'm going to try selling something, it better be something I'd be willing to wear myself! Cheers!

That Dress and Macrame

I've been mulling over the thought of trying to sell some macrame jewelery. I'm nowhere near an expert at it, but I definitely enjoy making the pieces. And I can't just make and make and make, even if I gave some away, I'd have necklaces and bracelets up to my ears.

Not to mention I'm a person who usually just wears the same few pieces everyday, rather than different ones, which means most of my jewelery gets little use as is. I think it's worth a shot anyway.

Dec 14 2010 E

I wore the dress without its matching belt, and I think I like it better this way. The belt sort of gave it a kimono kind of look I wasn't super keen on. I may try using the belt in other outfits though, because it's still pretty awesome.

These first two necklaces are my own personal ones and I won't be parting with those, but it gives you an idea. I know a lot of people out there are selling stuff like this, but if I find really unique beads, and start using different coloured hemp threads, I could have a chance.

Dec 14 2010 A

This is a necklace I made in hopes of selling. I was thinking somewhere around $8-10, shipping included in Canada and US for necklaces, and $6-8 for bracelets. Does that seem reasonable? Do you think I should give it a go? I'm trying to get as many honest opinions on the subject as I can before I get really gung-ho about it all. I'd be more than happy if the sales just covered my material costs.

Anyhow, I'm going to get started on another necklace, and finish watching Dead Man. Cheers!

Stealth Pants

As I'm certain is quite clear, I very rarely wear pants or shorts. Once in a blue moon pretty much. Which is why I like these goucho pants. They're like stealth pants, because half the time they still look like I'm wearing a skirt and feel much the same way too.

My shirt is apparently lightly reflective or something because it always winds up having funny white shapes on it in photos when it's perfectly clean and not-white.

Dec 13 2010 B

I actually got really lucky finding these pants. For one thing, they were hanging in the skirt section haha... But the pattern caught my eye and I figured I'd give them a try. I'd tried several pairs before but none of them were ever very flattering and I was beginning to lose hope in ever finding a me-friendly pair. But these are definitely for me! I can't wait for summer and being able to wear them then, I think they'll be great for hot weather.

Dec 13 2010 E

I went back to my friend's on Friday to check on the soap we'd made together... It looked great in the molds but it was too good to be true. It still does a fine job of being soap, but it's like play-dough soap, squishy and pliable. Too much oil was used in the batch apparently! It was still fun though, and I'd like to give it another go sometime.

Dec 13 2010 F

I'm feeling a bit rough today, and I'm beginning to worry I might have a cold. So I'm eating lots of veggies and taking vitamin C pills and trying to take 'er easy. I'm still reading Julie & Julia and I'm loving it so far. I have a feeling the film will have a hard time competing with the book for me.

Dance, dance, dance!

I purchased an album from one of the artist's at the party this weekend, and it's really good. I don't usually buy physical CD's, but when it's the actual person who's album it is that I'm handing the money to, and I know the money is actually going to help them out, then I'm game. If you like electronic music at all, check out Virtual Light, it's what I'm dancing to in the last photo. :) Cheers!

Sleepy Sunday

I went to a party in Montréal, Québec last night, and consequently am extremely tired. I got home at around 11am this morning, took a four hour nap and that's all I'm running on since about 11am yesterday morning. If this post seems garbled, blame my sleep deprivation! I am too tired and lazy today to take outfit photos - not to mention I'm not dressed. Cozy clothes today. But I am going to share a few photos.

Dec 12 2010 A
Awesome hand made flower painted with UV paint.

Sadly my camera batteries died not long into the party so I didn't get to take very many photos. A friend did let me take a few on his iPhone - convincing me of the evils of the thing - and if those turn out maybe I'll share more.

Dec 12 2010 A

There was seriously a random Elmo toy hanging from the dangling bits from the ceiling. So I sat on the couch underneath it and attempted to take artsy-angle photos. I guess it worked?

My weekend was filled with lots of smiles and time with friends. Hope you all had a great weekend too! Cheers!

Seen it all before

I seem to just keep re-wearing the same pieces over and over lately, mix and matched. Even though I have tons of other stuff to be wearing. Oh well. Today had the misfortune of being another one of those days for me, so if my smiles seem a bit stressed, that would be why.

A chicken dish I cooked came out partly raw, and as someone who prides herself on cooking and baking, it was rather upsetting to say the least. It likely wouldn't have bothered me overmuch, but after absolutely ruining a batch of brownies (upon tasting them, I learned they were NOT edible) I was starting to doubt my kitchen skills!

Blouse details... and no, the shirt is not pink, the flash just made it so.

Dec 09 2010 E

I'd been frustrated with a certain few locks of hair - what used to be bangs - which have recently decided to keep flopping to the wrong side. So I braided the little buggers and now I can tuck them aside, no muss, no fuss!

Dec 09 2010 B

I also recently made another hemp necklace. And once again somehow turned it into a choker. I swear I cut more than enough hemp string, and set aside more than enough beads and count all the right amount of knots and still... I'll just have to keep at it! Thankfully, I like wearing chokers so it's not the end of the world.

Dec 09 2010 C
My made-by-me hemp necklace.

Anyhow, I haven't had anything to eat since noon, what with the whole raw-chicken fiasco, so I'm going to go scrounge up some viddles and curl up with a book. I've been reading Julie and Julia by Julie Powell. I've yet to see the film of the same name, but I plan on watching it once I'm done the book.

Dec 09 2010 A

And so I leave you with the book cover and my cat's behind. Just because. Cheers!

What a day...

This just seems to be one of those days for me. I got a parking ticket while at the pharmacy, my brownies stuck to the pan and came out a mess - still edible, but ugly and really not fit for eyes to see - and I just finished taking care of paperwork with work which I absolutely loathe. Top that off with this being a horribly windy cold day, and that I seem to have just started very painful hiccups, you have one of those days. I forced myself to take some photos but I really wasn't up to it so you only get one today.

The day did have at least a small highlight. I spent a few hours with a friend of mine making home made soap. I felt a bit like a mad scientist as we dealt with the lye, since we had to wear safety goggles and latex gloves. It won't be ready for a while, but it was fun. I'd always been interested in making my own soap but the long list of ingredients seemed intimidating in terms of price and effort for something I'd never even done before so getting to take part without really investing was nice.

Anyhow, I'm going to curl up with a book and hope these hiccups go away. Cheers!
