Wintertime Love

I've once again fallen into listening to The Doors. I absolutely adore Jim Morrison's voice (not to mention he's nice on the eyes, hah) and I love all their songs. In particular I've been listening to their album Waiting for the Sun, and the song Wintertime Love just really resonates with me right now.

The song is quite short, under 2 minutes, but the album is really supposed to be listened to all together. Either way, it's still quite lovely and I suggest you give the song, and the whole album a listen if you haven't before.

I mentioned a while back then I went to a little photoshoot with some lady friends of mine. I had hoped to clean up my own photos but my photoshop skills are practically nil, so the photos I took have horrendous backgrounds. Let's pretend they aren't there.

I brought one of my pythons along to the photoshoot and he wound up being a real hit. He must have passed through everyone's hands at least once, and everyone liked cuddling him so much he was barely ever in his container.

The main reason for the photoshoot was a project a friend of mine had to do for school. The next photos were taken and altered by that friend. I was happy though, because one of the young women wound up wearing the dress I purchased from Heather's Etsy shop, and it really suited her wonderfully!

I have a twin! ;)

And yup, I have not just one pet python, but two. And another different type of snake as well hah. The one in the photos is named Galen, he's a ball python. I acquired him in October of '09 and he's a year and 4 months old at the moment. He's a total sweetheart and I love him to bits.

What to Wear?

This outfit is so far from what I first threw on this morning. I started off wearing a plaid skirt, and tried one of my black sweater dresses over it. I thought that looked weird, took away the plaid skirt, replaced it with the leggings. I then decided the dress was too big for me now, replaced it with the skirt and picked the top for matching with the leggings hah. Getting dressed is hard work!

I really like these leggings just because they have such a fun print, lillies, strings of pearls and leopard print. I have a bit of a hard time finding ways to wear them but this definitely works.

All I really want to be wearing is the goucho pants I thrifted a few days ago but they haven't been washed yet. So I'm just forcing myself to wear other things. I'd probably just wear the same thing over and over again for days sometimes if I could, because I love whatever it is so much at the time. Are there any items of clothes you need to stop yourself from overwearing?

I do quite like how the tank top goes with the blue in the sweater though, and that's probably a pairing I'll do again. I wish I had a nice denim skirt to wear with this but the only one I have just isn't the right wash and winds up looking wonky.

I'm wearing one of my special pairs of butterfly wing earings. They're made with actual, real butterfly wings. It's really cool because the butterflies are raised in a sanctuary, and when they die, their wings are made into jewelery and all proceeds go to protecting rain forests and endangered jungle species.

Soft as Suede

I really dig the way my suede skirt looks and feels... but it has one major flaw. It flaps. Loudly. The only way I can get around anywhere without flapping like a flag in the wind, is to take teeny tiny itty bitty steps. And I have a naturally long stride, which means I flap everywhere I go if I have this skirt on because I always forget to take tiny steps.

I happen to find the flapping rather embarrassing, and so don't wear it very often. I wasn't expecting to leave the house for much today so I wore it, but I did wind up at the grocery store. This put me out in the cold where I discovered something that hadn't occurred to me until then; how good it would be blanketing me from the cold. This skirt may see more action for the winter.

I'd meant to make this next photo part of yesterday's post but it somehow slipped my mind. It's another of the things I've got hanging on my bedroom walls.



These fashionable folks are my paternal grandparents on their wedding day. My grandfather was 24 and my grandmother was 15. The year was 1960. I love how whoever put the photo in the frame took the time to cut out little hearts in each corner, and put in a lovely little flowered background. I saw it collecting dust in my parents' spare closet and snatched it up.

Flower Child

Some days I just really channel the flower child in me. Sure, I was born a few decades too late to be the real deal... But it just feels right! I so badly wish I could have been around with those free thinking, loving people in the changing times. I could probably do with more colour but hey!

This is the most adorable outfit, but apparently also impossible to photograph at all flatteringly. Not to mention my tights are brown and they always came out looking like a dirty gray in the photos.

I'm not really the crop top kind of person - I may be coming to love my body and shape, but not to the point of showing off my belly just yet - but this was just so cute and fit so well... I figured I'd find some other way to wear it, and I did.

I bought the black dress several years ago, as a graduation dress, and to wear to my friend's wedding. It's actually super useful for layering, both under and over things, or just on its own, so yay for that! Plus check out how flouncy this thing is! That's got Wear-Me-Dancing written all over it!

The long shell necklace is one of many that were in a $2 bag I bought at a Value Village. I've never been big on gold or diamonds, I prefer more natural, earthy jewelery. So these shells definitely suit my desires. Pair that with some feather earings, my hemp and wood bead choker and the little braids in my long hair and you got yourself a neo-hippie!

And here's another shot of some of the stuff in my bedroom, this time one of the shelves with some of my bones. Just so it's clear, none of the bones or furs etc. of the creatures I collect are from animals that were purposefully killed for such things. Some I found in the forest and cleaned myself, others I bought from taxidermy artists or in little shops.



From the left there is a bobcat skull, a crane skull, a mink skull, a crow skull and two little magnifying boxes holding the exuvia from two of my tarantulas. The two tall bones in the back are leg bones, the thin one belonging to a crane, and the other to a bear.

Usually my tomcat Caramel stays out of camera shot - for the most part, sometimes his tail sneaks in - but today he just seemed to want to be there because he specifically chose that food bowl instead of the one in the hall.

I am so in love with this sweater. When I was at the store, it was a toss up between this one and what I like to call a Grandpa Sweater (kind of like The Dude's in the Big Lebowski). I've been searching for the perfect Grandpa Sweater for ages, and I thought that it might be the one... except it was a bit too large, and a button was missing and $10 seemed a bit steep to me... so this sweater won over instead! I'm glad though, it's such a great sweater.

I threw on the leg warmers, hoping to tie in with the white in the sweater. It has so many wonderful colours but apparently none of my skirts go with any of them. This little black skirt was my first attempt but I think I can do better.

It was a nice warm outfit though! I went out and did a little walking in the Byward Market this evening, and I wasn't at all cold, not even my legs. I picked up the cutest little wooden carved mushrooms in one of the stores too, which is a fun bonus.

Wearing the sweater all day would get a bit warm when the furnace kicked in, and I felt terribly plain and boring without it on, so I pinned on some of my spider broaches. Funnily enough, I have two nearly identical ones, the first having been found at a stall in a mall, the second a gift from my mother, bought at a small highway gift shop. Spidery things just find their way to me!



I did a bit of tidying in my room so I could put my new wooden mushrooms in the best place, and I took a photo of the top of my bureau after having dusted and replaced everything. The last time I bought a dress from Heather, she sent along an extra little something, and now I have it here showcasing some of my knick knacks. Thank you for the gift, Heather! It's definitely being appreciated.



And just to show what strange things I keep, that little rock was given to me back in 2009 while I was out in Alberta attending Motion Notion. A girl from the next camp over was hanging out with us and she handed me the rock and said it was a gift... and I kept it, hah. I think of her and the great time we shared every time I look at it. And who said keepsakes need to be expensive or elaborate!

Bright and Shiny

This dress is just so colourful and fun and amazing! And all the more special because it was the only one in the whole thrift store and it fit me!

The fabric is a bit shiny so it doesn't lend itself well to being photographed with a flash, but you get the idea. It's all just big splashy flowers in neon colours, it's fantastic. I've been attracted to the most crazily bright coloured and patterned pieces of clothes lately. Perhaps my internal way of battling the winter blahs of grey and brown everywhere outside!



It came with a belt, which is that pink part, with two really long strips of the dress fabric on either side, long enough to wrap around my waist one turn before tying it in the back.

I can't wait to wear this dress out somewhere... maybe dancing! It's definitely bright and fun. Hope you're all having a good week, cheers!
