Bright Green

I wasn't able to wear this dress much over the summer because it was too long and heavy for the humid heat. It's back in circulation for the season now though! When I last showed you this dress in early June, I wore the matching belt that came with it. This time around, I used a scarf as a belt to spice things up a little.

I've actually had this scarf for a while but couldn't for the life of me figure out what to wear it with. Finally I used it here because there is a tiny amount of green in the print and I figured that would work hah. You can sort of see on the edges, but the scarf is made with alternating panels of sheer and solid, which is pretty cool.

The next time I wear this, I'll probably be layering it with a cardigan. These photos were taken back at the end of September when the weather was still mild, but things are different now! Thankfully the length of this dress makes it great for cooler days.

I'm very glad it's Friday today. I'm going out dancing tonight with some friends which should be fun. And I want to try setting up a proper sewing area in my spare room so I can just wander in, sit down, and work. My main obstacle right now is the lack of desire to go through the whole set-up process with my sewing machine every, single, time. So once that's out of the way, all should be good.

I hope you all have a really fantastic weekend. Cheers!

To the Zoo!

I went to the Toronto Zoo back in mid-September, and I am finally posting some of the photos! This post will have pretty much zero to do with fashion or anything else except animals so... unless you really like beasties, feel free to skip this one. Everybody else... let's carry on!

It was an absolutely perfect day for me to hit up the zoo. Sunny, just warm enough to be comfortable with a nice light breeze. Plus it was an off-season Friday so things were pretty mellow, just the way I like 'em.

Are not pygmy hippoes just the cutest little things? If I were a zillionaire, I would totally have a pet pygmy hippo, for sure.

I skipped out on the animals from North America just because of time limitations (besides, I've seen moose and bears in the wild, big deal) but I was pretty bummed at not getting to see a snow leopard. I got turned around somewhere between the kangaroos and the ibex and spent about 45 minutes lost and bewildered. I had gone completely the wrong way and it was too late to go back by the time I figured out where I was. A zoo map does you no good if you do not know where you are on the map!

I just love this photo of the giraffe. I'd seen them do the weird spread-front-leg lean before, but this was new. It actually came up quite close to the edge of its pen... and then screeching children frightened it away. If I could come back as any animal, it'd totally be a giraffe.

I've got more photos from my zoo trip to share with you, but I'll post them separately. Plus you can expect two posts about my visit to the Reptile Expo that same weekend too. I hope you're all having a good week. Cheers!

It's all in the colours

The first time I posted an outfit with this top, I paired it with a dark brown skirt. It looks so different with this white skirt instead. I really like how easily I can switch things up by just using a different colour. I'll have to try with tan and green next.

In keeping with my weird polish habits, my toes are currently yellow and green. Why? Why not! Although I figure soon enough I'll switch over to orange and black, to be in the Halloween spirit.

Sept 27 2011 A

I picked up some fuzzy leopard print pajamas as my zombie costume for the Zombie Walk in two weekends. So far I've been... home-reno zombie, then an office worker zombie the year after, and a lady-in-white zombie last year. This year I'm a zombie in PJ's! It's going to be so fun, I can't wait.

Is there anything weird or spooky you do around Halloween? The Zombie Walk is pretty much my "thing" for the season. That thing I look forward to attending next year the minute it's over this year. I haven't decided yet if I'll bother carving any pumpkins... but having at least one for Halloween night is always a good idea. Anyway, I hope you're all having a good week. Cheers!

Today

I've been posting outfit photos dated several weeks before my actual posts lately, but today's photos are actually from today. I went thrifting with my friend Tina yesterday and got a lot of awesome stuff, including this dress I'm wearing.

I made some bacon, Gruyere and green onion scones today too. They are sooo tasty, and the recipe is extremely easy. If you like savoury scones, these are good ones. I meant to bake some pumpkin pie this weekend but these scones will do instead.

This dress has a tiny floral print but I didn't think to take any photos up close. Maybe some other time, if I figure out how to layer this baby for cooler weather. It's unnaturally warm here today though, which is why I can be out like this. We got about 4 days of Indian Summer and it's going to start crazy raining again for days. Ah well, better than nothing.

Oct 9 2011 B

I purchased a new game for my PC, called From Dust. I am excited to get it installed and give it a try. Haven't had a new game in a while, so this should be fun. I hope you're all having a great weekend. And Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow Canadians! Cheers!

The Sparkling Spiders

This is a dress I wear on a fairly regular basis, so I'm surprised I haven't posted any shots of it in a while. It came with this obi belt, but after the first time wearing it, I hadn't worn it since. I like the obi better on me now that I've lost some weight so I'll probably wear it with the dress again in the future.

Spider-themed things and I just seem attracted to each other. If there is one spider item in an entire shop, I will find it. Or it will find me. And that was the case with the earrings I'm wearing. I couldn't leave the Zoo in Toronto without checking out the gift shop, and I was about to leave empty handed when I spotted these puppies hanging by themselves amid tacky key chains.

These are probably the only earrings that, were they made with actual diamonds, that I would be willing to wear. Except they would be incredibly expensive and I'd never be able to afford a pair hah. I love my little cheap-o pair anyway!

I have the upcoming Monday off for Canadian Thanksgiving. I am so happy about the long weekend! And for once I get to spend the whole thing in my own city. My friend Tina and I are going thrifting tomorrow, which I am quite excited about. We're aiming to hunt down some good items for zombie costumes, which should be interesting. I also hope to find a blue dress so I can be Alice for Halloween... We'll see what I find!

Another of my goals this weekend is to trim my own hair. It's probably madness, but I am not paying someone $30 just to cut 2 inches off the bottom of my hair, seriously. I hope you all have a groovy weekend. Cheers!

Thrift Miracle

Honestly, the Thrift Gods were bestowing their good luck and powers on me when I found this cardigan at Value Village. I was already there with cardigans in mind, but I never imagined I'd find this leopard print jewel! The only reason I think whoever owned it donated it... was because one sleeve's seam was coming undone and I had to sew about 8 inches of it back together once I brought it home. Good as new!

I love that this cardigan has self-fabric ties, perfect for accenting my waist. I'm having a lot of fun remixing this cardigan though, and even once leopard print "goes out of style" if that's really possible, I will still keep rocking it. I'm just going to resist pairing it with my matching heels heh.

Sept 15 2011 A

These are the shoes I mentioned purchasing back at the end of August. While they are a smidge big, they're really comfortable and easy to walk in. I'd probably have ordered half a size down if I'd known though.

Sept 15 2011 B

They just make me feel very Joan Harris. I just love feeling like Joan Harris. Is it clear that I absolutely adore and love Joan Harris? Le sigh. Anyway! I took these photos back on September 15th, I am so behind. It's going to get awkward once it's snowing out and I'm still posting Fall outfit photos.

Sept 15 2011 C

Things are pretty quiet on the home front right now and I quite like it that way. It's been very cold and rainy here - despite everywhere else seemingly being in the throws of an early Indian Summer - and so it's been conducive of hiding indoors in my jammies and drinking hot coffee.

I stayed in all of Sunday and the cat quite enjoyed that. He misses me when I'm gone! It's nice to be missed, even if it is just by a cat. I hope you're all having a good week so far, and a great day. Cheers!

Obscured

Sometimes life leads us places we don't expect. Things happen. Things change. And then you wake up one morning and realize that everything is shrouded in a thick fog and you don't know what's going on or where you are or when you'll be able to just see clearly again. I think the fog in my life is finally dissipating, burning away with the morning sun's heat.

I took this photo on Sunday morning, a little after 8:30AM, when I was visiting my parents in Cache Bay this past weekend. The fog was still thick when my father drove me to North Bay, to catch the Greyhound bus and go home, over an hour later. Funnily enough, it just ended abruptly as we were driving along the highway. You could see it behind us in the rear view mirror but once we were around a bend, you'd have never known it was there.

I'm out of that fog now. No more bumping into things, wondering where I am or where I'm going. It's clear skies and smooth sailing from now on. I refuse to get lost in the fog again.

Chelsea asked if my birthday really is on Halloween... Yup, it is! It was sorta fun as a kid, in that my mom would make me Halloween themed cakes and such, but most people are busy celebrating somehow or other already. It makes it hard to do anything specifically for my birthday. I even tried hosting a Halloween party for my 21st, but it was a flop. I still adore Halloween anyway though, it's my favourite Holiday. I hope you all have a groovy Friday and a great weekend. Cheers!
